Flames Against Togo Game Cancelled

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President, Walter Nyamilandu has for the last minute told Malawian soccer fans that the game between Malawi and Togo has been cancelled.

On speaking to the country's local news paper, THE NATION SPORT, Nyamilandu said the game has been cancelled because up to now they have not recieved any official confirmation from their opponents and instead they will play Kuwait in Cairo, Egypt.

"As the situation stands now, we would rather play Kuwait other than hope for a friendly against either Togo and Zambia because up to now there is no confirmation.

"Togo's friendly was subject to their trip to Congo Brazaville where they were sheduled to camp which has not materialised. So, we could not take a gamble because Togo were not forthcoming and instead we will play Kuwait," he said.

The game between Togo was scheduled to be played on January 2 after Flames' return from Egypt where they are playing another friendly with Egypt today.

Kuwait is also in Egypt amid preparations of Asian Cup match against Austria which will take place on January 6.

Meanwhile Malawian soccer fans are worried since they were preparing to see another top class player, Emanuel Adebayor after they last watched Didier Drogba and Solomon Kalou to name a few.

‘United We Stand Divided We Fall’- A Hand Of Giving Is Better Than That Of Receiving

Children are the future of a nation. Educating children it means we are building a better nation of tomorrow.
Many children are failing to access better education because they are living under poverty lie-the thing that lead many nations to have low literacy level.
India, the nation which has literacy ratio of 65.38%, is one of the nations which have underprivileged children who are not able to go to school.
The country has 193 million children aged between 6 to 14 years and almost 8.1 million are out of school according to the 2004 government statistics.
This has attracted many organization like Smile, a national level development organization which has at least a network of more than 100 children welfare projects.

The organisation assists poor children when they are in difficulties like child labour, children of poorest of the parents, underprivileged children inflicted and affected with HIV/AIDS, runaway and street children, e.tc.

So apart from this organization, we as individual we are also invited to take part in this initiative in order to assist these poor children to better access education. This can be done by donating money, books or any other stuff that we feel can assist those underprivileged children to access education.
We should also remember that education is a birth right of all so we must appreciate other’s problems in order to bring their rights alive. If more people are educated, they can easily get message concerning the dangerous of HIV/AIDS through reading books.
Lastly, remember that ‘DIVIDED WE FALL, UNITED WE STAND.’

Adebayor To Shine In Malawi As The 2010 AFCON Preparations Continues

Malawian soccer fans have something to smile about when they expect another top class player to shine at Kamuzu Stadium on January 2, 2010. This news comes barely after Malawians watched other

football gods-Didier Drogba, Solomon, Emanuel Eboue and Muhammad Aboutrika at Kamuzu Stadium.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) broke this news when he was announcing the revised programme of African Cup of Nations preparations which include friendly games. Some of the teams that FAM have dated is Ghana and Egypt.

It is reported that FAM and Togo FA have signed a contract of which one of the clauses is that Togo will bring full squad.

Nyamilandu said: “They will be here on December 31 and play us on January 2 before flying out to South Africa. This is a big moment for Malawian football as we bring to our fans another top player in [the name of] Adebayor.”

“The Flames need home game before Afcon to wave goodbye to the fans. Doing it against a top team such as Togo is something beautiful,” he continued.

However Malawi will travel to Cairo where they are supposed to play Egypt on December 29.

“Egypt have invited us to play them away. They are paying everything-from air tickets, accommodation to allowances,” he added.

Meanwhile Malawi’s coach, Kinnah Phiri said that it is a good plan than that of overseas as they planned earlier on-saying that these Africa teams will spice up the Flames.

Kinnah said: “You can not ask anything better than playing full strength Egypt, Ghana and Togo within a week. I t will really give us a good picture of what to expect in Angola.”

Before flying out to Angola, Malawi will be at Swaziland’s capital City, Mbabane where they will take on Ghana on January 5 in a friendly match.

Therefore, FAM president has assured Malawians that everything is well and nothing to worry about as they have made contracts with all FAs.

“Everything is in Black. We have contracts with all the three FAs,” He concluded.

Malawi beat African Giants, Egypt, DRC, Guinea and they made one-all draw with Ivory coast at Kamuzu stadium in Blantyre-Malawi in 2010 World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers two months ago.

Malawi qualified for Angola’s Africa Cup of Nations with a dramatic record of one win and a draw. This is their first time to reach the promised land after 25 painful year.

They were drawn with Angola, Mali and Algeria in Group A-and are expected meat Algeria in their opening match on January 11.

WHY DO WE CELEBRATE NEW YEAR'S DAY ON JANUARY 1?

1ST -JANUARY is the day which many people around the world celebrate their New Year-many people do a lot of things in celebrating this day. But, the question rises: Why do we celebrate New Year on January 1? In this article I compiled some of the reasons why people celebrate on January 1st some traditions and events.

January 1, is the date which was chosen by Roman Senate in 153 BC but it did not matter as people were celebrating whenever they wanted to- before Julius Caesar decided in 46 BC that New Year would be celebrated on January 1st.

In that year, Julius created a Julius calendar that is why he decided the New Year should be start on January 1st. In that year he had to make the year last 445 days in order to harmonize the calendar with the moon.

In 2000 BC the Babylonians celebrated new year in around spring with the first New Moon after the Vernal Equinox and the celebration was lasting 11 days. This celebration was called Akitu. It is reported that Akitu was performance of the a mythological battle fought between the new god Marduk and the old goddeness Tiamet.

Some Christians also celebrate on January 1st as they believe that this day, is when Jesus Christ was circumcised.

Some churches gather to do what they call “Watch Night”-they do spend all night thanking God for the blessings received in the old year.

In 1700s the Moravians landed in the United States to start the “Watch night” before John Wesley (founder of Methodists) picked up the practice.

January 1 in 1863, was the effective date of the emancipation declaration and it was known as “freedom’s eve.”

Some believe that the beginning of spring is a logical time to start a new year. because, it is seems to be the season of rebirth, of planting new crops, and of budding. January 1, there is no significance in either astronomical or agricultural-it is merely capricious.

For the Malawians, they have something to be proud of as Tiyambe Zeleza named a Professor and Head, Department of African American students at the University of Illinois at Chicago, America on January 1, 2007.

Teleza who was born in May 1955 in Harare, Zimbabwe is a far-famed person who received his BA with distinction in 1972-1976, majoring in History and English. He also served as a Staff Associate at the University of Malawi’s Chancellor College from 1976-1977 before going to Britain for his graduate studies.

He is a holder of MA in African history and International Relations which he obtained at University of London’s school of Oriental political science from 1977-1978 before getting his PhD in economic history at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Mona, Scotia, Canada in 1978-1982.

In some traditions, it is believed that you should start the new year with congratulating your loved one for the passion she/he has shown in the past year. Promising that you will lose weight, quit smoking is among other practices which Babylonians were doing.

It is also believed that on this day you should not attempt to pay back your loans or lend money-keep it for the time to follow. You are also commanded to bring back borrowed farm equipment.

So January 1, is a day with good things to remember.

Cristiano Ronaldo Wishes Not To Face Manutd in CPL

Cristiano Ronaldo has for the first time vowed that he do not want to face his former team, Manchester United in the Champions League knock out stages due to respect he has in Sir Alex Ferguson.

The knockout stages draw which will take on Dec 18 will keep the two teams together if Real Madrid overcome AC Milan in their group and if Manchester United finish top position in Group B.

Ronaldo said: "I don't want to play against Manchester. It will be a strange feeling if I play them.

"Mr Ferguson helped me a lot in my career. I was there six years and he taught me many things. I keep the same relationship with him. He's a good friend of mine. I still have the same friends."

The Portuguese winger also said that his ambition is to play football till fourties if his legs will allow him.

He added: "If my legs let me play until I'm 40, I want to play. But I want to be in the first page of history, the same as Maradona and Pele."

Ronaldo is not performing well after his return from injury and he missed a lot of chances when his team was one nil down to Barcelona last week.
